Jo Bird had the pleasure of a visit this week from Bettina Kjaergaard, Global product manager for offshore wind and Camilla Holmegaard Carstensen, Global sourcing executive from Viking Life-saving in Denmark.

The purpose of the visit was to oversee the latest batch of JB29 wind turbine safety equipment cabinets and to ensure the packing team knew exactly how the Viking YouSafe ®immersion suits and Skylotec descent devices needed to be shipped. These are destined for Ørsted’s Race bank offshore wind farm off the coast of Norfolk and Lincolnshire.

Race bank is operated by Ørsted who are the largest partner in the consortium of Ørsted, Macquarie European infrastructure and the Sumitomo corporation. The 91 Siemens-Gamesa 6MW wind turbines are capable of generating enough electricity to power up to half a million homes.

During a couple of really enjoyable days Camilla got to see the Jo Bird factory for the first time and to understand just how much goes into the manufacturing of each cabinet. They also examined some of the current R&D projects aimed at reducing waste and improving quality.

Their presence was greatly appreciated by the Jo Bird production team who don’t often get to meet the customers and helped to cement the already excellent working relationship. It was also a clear demonstration of the commitment of Viking life-saving to follow the projects through right to the end. We very much hope this can be repeated again soon.
