After Babcock’s announcement of the steel cutting ceremony for the second Type 31e Frigate (HMS Active) at their Rosyth ship yard back in January, develops are happening at a pace.

Part of this was entailed more orders for the Jo Bird RS450FF-Type A roller shutter cabinets (NATO stock code NSN 2090-99-258-4405) from our friends at Varivane in Devises. These cabinets are the first five vessels of the class. Unlike the previous ones for fire fighting equipment and damage control, they will be used to store first aid equipment.

Orders have also come through for the lifejacket chests and upright GSLJ cabinets for the same vessel.

With the current uncertainty in the world, there is an acute need for new Frigates both for the Royal Navy and other countries. The Type 31e project, being based on an established design which can easily be customised, offers a comparitively cheap and fast route to addressing this need.
